And they have somes serious knowledge and experience among their background staff, too.

Former England batsman Vikram Solanki is the Director of Cricket, former Indian World Cup winner Ashish Nehra is the Head Coach and former South African run machine Gary Kisten is their Batting Coach and Mentor.

Let’s have a look at some stats around the team, as well as some top-quality tricks to enhance your online cricket betting entertainment.

Gujarat Titans Best Odds

The sites offering IPL betting have the Gujarat Titans as one of the outsiders at average odds of 10.0. Curiously, the betting sites have decided that they have a better chance of winning IPL 2022 than the other new team, the Lucknow Super Giants, who are 12.0.

However, they’re still way off the odds given to the likes of the Mumbai Indians (5.5), the Delhi Capitals (6.0) and the Punjab Kings (7.0).

All in all, it’s probably a fair assessment that the bookies have made.

There are some areas where they look really strong and others not so much, whereas having Hardik Pandya as captain could be a masterstroke or could be asking a bit too much of a player with little or no captaincy experience prior to this.

We’ll have to wait and see whether Pandya was the right choice and how well they spent in the auction.

Has Gujarat Titans won the IPL before?

Of course not. You can’t win a competition you’ve never taken part in before! Gujarat will be making their debut in the 2022 IPL and history tells us this is one of the hardest competitions in cricket to win.

So they may have to wait a while before grabbing their first IPL title.

Crown to represent the Captain of Gujarat Titans

Captain: Hardik Pandya

In truth it hasn’t been a great year or so for Hardik Pandya.

An ongoing injury meant he hardly bowled at all at the 2021 IPL for Mumbai so he was often played just as a batsman, which diminishes his value to the team.

He was pretty fortunate to be picked by India just as a batter at the 2021 World Cup and failed to make an impact as they lost their first two games and crashed out.

So perhaps it wasn’t that much of a surprise when he wasn’t one of the four retained players by Mumbai.

Their loss was Gujarat’s gain, at least for the time being.

We know he’s an extremely explosive batsman and gun fielder but it will be a big loss if he doesn’t bowl at all.

More importantly, he’ll have to quickly find his feet as skipper, a role he’s not accustomed to.

Trophy to represent the Gun player for Lucknow Super Giants

Gun Player: Rashid Khan

Khan was voted the best T20 batsman of the previous decade and was the first pick at The Hundred auction.

Perhaps neither of those two things should have come as a surprise.

A leg-spinner who has an economy rate hovering at around six an over and averages better than a wicket a game, are hard to come by.

In this regard, he’s the top spinner in the world because of the impact his four overs so often have on the match.

Khan is also an athletic fielder but perhaps a change of IPL team is also the opportunity for him to develop his batting further.

We know he can hit boundaries with unorthodox shots but he needs to play longer innings than just cameos when needed.

Maybe Gujarat will bat him at five or six, something teams have rarely done in the past with Khan.

Medal to represent the Promising youngster for Lucknow Super Giants

Promising Youngster: Shubman Gill

The former KKR man is far from your typical T20 batsman.

He’s not full of power, he doesn’t move around the crease that much and tends to play orthodox shots out of the Test cricket manual. His strike rate in all T20 cricket is 124 and he’s never played for India in this format.

But his average of 31 is ok and 12 fifties at T20 level show he can occasionally kick on.

His role will be to bat sensibly while others around him take more risks but he’ll still need to improve on that strike rate.

Or else Gujarat risk having starts that are a bit too slow, especially in high-scoring games.

Gujarat Titans Team analysis

It’s a little hard to know what to make of this Gujarat side. Their bowling looks good.

Mohammed Shami has been one of the IPL’s most consistent wicket-takers for the past six or seven years, Lockie Ferguson has always been good with his extra pace and Rashid Khan is arguably the world’s most feared T20 bowler.

If the other bowlers give them the necessary support, they could be one of the tightest bowling units in the IPL. But rather like Lucknow, their middle-order looks a bit suspect.

They’ll want to make sure they don’t bat Matthew Wade (assuming they play him) too low down, nor will they want to bat Pandya too high up, because he’s at his best in the death overs.

They’ll need good tournaments from Indian all-rounders Shankar and Tewatia and hope Pandya also bowls, or else they might look a bit thin both in terms of bowlers and batters.

Whether Pandya has the man-management and technical/tactical skills to be an IPL captain, remains to be seen.

A tick to represent the strengths of Lucknow Super Giants

  • Three of the IPL’s best bowlers in Khan, Shami and Ferguson.
  • Rashid Khan can win any game from any position.
  • Excellent fielders in Pandya, Khan and Roy.

An X to represent the weaknesses of Lucknow Super Giants

  • Pandya is unproven as captain.
  • No left-arm fast bowlers.
  • Middle-order lacks real class.

Gujarat Titans FAQs

India all-rounder Hardik Pandya joined the Titans for 15 Crore ahead of the 2022 season and will be the team’s first-ever skipper.

Khan opted not to be retained by the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the end of the 2021 season, allegedly because he wanted to be the team’s highest-paid player and SRH saved that status for Kane Williamson.

So he was in the Mega Auction and was one of three players pre-picked ahead of the auction by Gujarat, who paid him 15 Crore for his services, the same as skipper Hardik Pandya.

Former India fast bowler Ashish Nehra. Nehra had been bowling coach at RCB in the past and will be working under Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki and Mentor Gary Kirsten.
