Two matches in a span of 24 hours are no easy feat for any team, but such is the life in the CPL 2021.

The last time Guyana Amazon Warriors had a fixture like this, they almost ended up losing the first one (defeated Trinbago Knight Riders in Super Over) and lost the second one to none other than the Kings themselves.

Five days later, they are in the same position again and in all fairness, their prospects are not looking that great.

The Amazon Warriors fell to Barbados Royals by 45 runs on Tuesday in a match where their opponents put up a spirited performance.

Bowling first, the Warriors failed to restrict the Royals to a small total and ended up with a humungous score of 185 runs to chase. When they came on to bat, the best they could do is respond with 140 runs all out with Mohammad Hafeez and Odean Smith being the largest contributors.

Combined with the first-leg defeat incurred by the Warriors against the Kings, the Nicholas Pooran-led side faces an uphill task of rising to the occasion. The pressure would be high on Romario Shepherd and Imran Tahir to step up and bowl well in this critical encounter.

Saint Lucia Kings are heading into this fixture after a well-deserved rest of two and a half days which, in this high-pressure tournament, is much needed.

More impressively, the Kings have won three of their last four matches in the league which effectively puts them in third place with a firm grip on the playoffs.

Most recently, they defeated St Kitts & Nevis Patriots by 6 wickets after chasing a small total of 118 runs. The match previous to this was the reverse-fixture where the Patriots were handed an even more humiliating defeat – this time by 100 runs. Faf du Plessis’s knock of 120 runs propelled the Kings to 224-2 – the second-highest total in this year’s Caribbean Premier League.

By the looks of it, Saint Lucia Kings have relied more on their batting than bowling although, the likes of Kesrick Williams and Jeavor Royal have already added 15 wickets between them this season.

Batting wise, there is plenty of talent to go about with Du Plessis, Roston Chase, and Andre Fletcher batting in a fine form.

The last couple of matches at Warner Park have seen fairly high totals in the first innings, in addition to watching the team batting second struggle to chase the target.

That may give some clue to the captains on what to do if they win the toss but this being an evening fixture, the side with a strong batting pedigree may choose to bowl first. As for the conditions, they are expected to remain crisp and warm with no rain.
